:ok

Goodmorning, my name here and a few other places is dotdotok (read as “dot-dot-okay”)–there are, however, likely other false dotdotok’s in the wild, and you can’t trust who is who.

<2026-02-11 Wed> xkcd 356 and sniping myself

Do you know xkcd? You should, they've been around eons now, and still manage to be one of the most consistently reference-able comics ever, and I suspect they will continue to be until humanity's end (near or far? Who knows!).

https://xkcd.com/356

I've learned that I am so obscenely vulnerable to sniping myself, specifically when it comes to any kind of categorization or organization of things, I will immediately feel an urge to design an entire world-model from the ground up to justify whether I should pluralize a folder-name or not. It is remarkably paralyzing.

I think part of it is some weird FOMO/loss-aversion thing, a kind of fear that if I make The Wrong Assumption early, that I will pay for it until the end of time. I blame my work for that partially, The Wrong Assumption made too early can have some disastrous consequences in software development, but…at the same time its still usually recoverable. This anxiety absolutely extends to things like "what tools do I wanna use to make this site?", and "what do I even consider a journal-entry vs a standalone 'post'?".1

So, I'm going to try and minimize the amount of organization I do here, or else I'm not going to upload a single thing. Some changes will be made over time, but, so long as I remain stalwart, there will be no divine decree of format or theme. Consider most things here Haphazard-by-Design.

I still need to figure some things out, WRT the structure of this whole thing. This isn't a tech blog, but there'll be some tech-ish topics that come up, most likely.

The structure of this site is one thing, I'm also wrestling with the structure of my (overall brain, and) notes. The PIM beast is one that I've gone to combat with many times before, clearly never resulting in a permanent solution. I think I'm just gonna try to stick with a mainly-vanilla Org-Mode this time around, and see how far it takes me. Some of these words (emacs, org-mode, pim) might not mean much to you, I do hope to write about them a bit more in depth later, when I'm not about to be late for $JOB.

<2026-02-09 Mon> Goodmorning

Ok, I meant to begin writing this about a month or so ago, but then I fell into a mild ADHD+analysis-paralysis fueled Emacs rabbit-hole. (Video I took during the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W4NFcamRhM)

More to come from our ground-team.

  1. No, this is not a grammatical error, the question-mark is part of the quoted text, the period ends the overall sentence; they are communicating different things. I will die on this hill.↩︎
